June 12, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): What had begun on a small platform has now spanned across continents and is a name to be considered in the world of fashion. Ritu Kumar has woven the fabric of Indian textiles like a piece of drapery.
Ritu Kumar, will soon be a part of ‘India-Spain Fashion Meeting’ and ‘Valladolid de Moda Fashion Week’, to be held from June 28 to June 30 this year. The fashion event is being arranged by Casa de la India, the Indian cultural centre in Spain.
It has been said that the fashion festival will pay a tribute to Ritu Kumar and Spanish designer Elyo Berhanyer. It will take place in Madrid and Valladolid.
Kumar will be featuring 10 creations from her couture collection. The garments have used dull gold metallic threads, traditional look fabrics with Dhapka and Mukarish work embellished with sequins. There will be a “yesteryear royalty” feeling in the collection.
A contented Kumar says that the honor awarded to her is a signal that Indian Fashion has reached the global arena. She expressed her gratitude for being a part of the India-Spain Fashion interaction. She adds that her collection will showcase the rich Indian craft sensibility. She also expressed her intense desire to discover India’s hand-made and natural techniques in textiles.
We certainly hope to see the Indian fashion industry, flourish and prosper with time.
